The Task Detail Modal
Open any task to see everything it holds. The detail modal is where a to-do becomes a real plan: a top bar of quick actions, a title with a Start button, a grid of properties, subtasks, a description, and attachments.
Here is the whole thing at once. The walkthrough below tours each region in turn, top to bottom, then the sections after it go deeper on one region at a time.

StartBring last quarter’s revenue and churn numbers, and confirm the agenda with the team lead before the call.
The Start button opens Focus
The title bar’s Start button takes you straight to the Focus page for this task, a distraction-free view with nothing else from your board in sight. It is the same destination as Focus on a task’s right-click menu on the board, which is covered on the Focus mode page.
Top bar
The top bar handles navigation and quick actions. The up and down chevrons step to the previous or next task scheduled that day. The three-dots button opens the full task menu, covered option by option on the task menu page. Close returns you to the board.
Title and Start
The title row shows the task type, an Ask Luna shortcut scoped to this one task, the task’s name, and the Start button. Start opens the Focus page for this task, so you can work it with nothing else on your board in view.

StartTwo roads, one destination
Start here and Focus from the board’s right-click menu both lead to the same place: the dedicated Focus page for this task, with everything else out of view.
Where Start takes you
Clicking Start hands off to the Focus page for this exact task, the same page the board’s right-click Focus action opens. There is nothing else to set up, Volana takes you straight there.
Focus itself, its timer, subtasks, and break rhythms, is covered next on the Focus mode page.
Multiple chat threads
The Ask Luna panel scoped to this task is not limited to one conversation. Open the chat history dropdown in the panel’s header to jump back into an earlier thread, or start a fresh one with New chat, without losing anything already discussed.
Bring last quarter’s revenue and churn numbers, plus a short agenda for the team lead to confirm.
Old threads never disappear
Switching threads only changes which conversation is on screen. Every thread you have had about this task stays reachable from the history dropdown, in case you need to revisit a decision Luna helped you make earlier.
Task type
The pill at the start of the title row, next to Ask Luna, sets what kind of item this is. Volana uses the same icon for a type everywhere it appears on the board and calendar, so this pill is the one place that changes it.

Start- Task is the default: a to-do you schedule, work, and check off.
- Event marks it as a fixed commitment instead of a to-do, the kind of block covered on Volana events, tasks, and Zen blocks.
- Milestone turns it into a container for subtasks working toward one goal, covered on the milestones page.
Not every type converts directly
An event cannot become a milestone, and a milestone cannot become an event, directly. Convert to a task first, then to the other type.
Properties
Every value a task can carry lives in this grid, and each row opens a small picker when you click it.
- Date sets the day the task belongs to.
- Priority flags how urgent it is with a colored marker.
- Time sets when it’s scheduled that day.
- Tags group it with related work.
- Duration sets how long the block is.
- Repeating turns it into a recurring series Volana keeps extending.
Subtasks
Break a bigger task into steps. Each subtask can carry its own date and time, so Volana can place the pieces across your week; you check them off one by one, and the count at the top tracks your progress.
Description
A free-text area for notes, context, or links. If it’s empty, a bare “Write with Luna” shortcut appears so you don’t have to start from a blank page.
Attachments
Drop files onto the task or click the dashed area to pick some. Each one gets a small preview tile, images show a thumbnail and everything else shows a filename and extension badge, and either can be reopened or removed from that tile.
Let Luna fill it in
Instead of setting every property by hand, describe the task and let Luna propose subtasks and times for you. See Smart task creation under Luna.
A task with many subtasks that ladder toward one goal is often better modeled as a milestone, covered next.
