The Sidebar

A narrow panel on the right edge of Volana keeps today visible no matter what you’re doing elsewhere. It has two parts: a compact day calendar and an icon rail for jumping to the surfaces you use most.

The mini-calendar

The mini-calendar is a scaled-down version of your day: a filter row, a zoom control next to today’s date, and an hourly grid underneath. Tasks and Volana events that land on today’s date show up here automatically, in the same colors you see on the full calendar.

Zooming changes how much vertical space each hour takes up, so a packed morning is easier to read without changing anything about your actual schedule.

The rail

The thin strip at the very edge is always there, even when the mini-calendar is collapsed. Each icon swaps what shows in the panel next to it: Luna, Objectives, Backlog, Search, and Updates, plus Customize to pin whichever you use most. The next three sections walk through Objectives, Backlog, and Search in full, since each is its own surface worth learning on its own.

Objectives

Objectives is where your weekly and monthly goals live, without leaving whatever page you’re on. It shows a progress bar for the active period plus a card per goal, and a scope control to flip between the two.

3. 3Check a goal off directly from the rail, no need to open the full Plan page.

Backlog

Backlog opens an embedded view of everything not yet scheduled, grouped into buckets from “someday in the next week or two” out to “someday”. It’s the same list you see on the full Backlog page, just docked to the rail.

Search

Search finds a task, Volana event, or backlog item anywhere in your workspace. Leave the field empty and it browses what’s closest to right now; start typing and results filter live.

Collapsing and expanding

The button at the bottom of the rail collapses the mini-calendar panel down to nothing, giving your day board or calendar the full width. The rail itself never disappears, so every icon on it, including Luna, is still one click away. Click the same button again to bring the panel right back.
